We are now just 13 months away from the 28-30 March Glenister Gathering 2008. The weekend promises to be a fantastic experience full of informative presentations and displays on our family history with plenty of time allowed for socialising.
Why not make the trip " Down Under". You can meet the extended family and allow time for day trips to local wineries and tourist destinations as well as enjoy some of the best that Melbourne has to offer. We are inviting you to visit one of the "World's Most Liveable Cities"!!
Yes, it is time for some definite commitment. With only ONE registrant (with deposit paid) so far, it won't be long before I go into panic mode. The venue has been booked and the accommodation at York on Lilydale is all available as well as plenty of other accommodation in the local area. This information is all on the Glenister website.
I also need a few more ideas and volunteers for displays and presentations. Some of you must have areas of interest, re family or research, that you would like to share.
For Family Root 2548 family members, there may be some breaking news on why John Putnam Glenister emigrated to Australia in 1853, bringing most of his family with him. His political life is part of a study of Chartists in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, being conducted by Dr Paul Pickering at the Australian National University in Canberra. If anyone knows anything that could add to this study, please let me know. I had no knowledge of John Putnam Glenister's "previous" activist life, one which sent him and his family to start a new life on the other side of the world.
We are still working on projected costs for GG2008. For more cost and payment details see Bulletin 3 on the website. A Registration Form is available from the web site. Please print it out as "portrait" NOT "landscape" for the correct format.
Hope to see you in March 2008
