Memories of the furniture business

These memories of the Glenister furniture business, based in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, were sent to me by Bernard Glenister (11 Mar 1921-6 Nov 2004) having been dictated by him in October 2002.

The above notes were removed on 6 March 2006 at the request of the Mrs Ann Clark, daughter of Bernard Glenister.

The additional notes include other information relevant to the Glenister furniture business in High Wycombe

Additional notes

The Thomas Glenister Company ceased trading in the 1990s.

The site of the factory is now a supermarket, but the name of the compamy lives on in the name of the road - Glenister Road.

Items of furniture made by the Glenister company are sometimes found for sale on the web based auction site eBay.

There is a chair museum in High Wycombe, which has a pretty good collection of furniture catalogues and examples of furniture. The museum is on Priory Avenue, High Wycombe, telephone 01494 421895. Opening times are: Mon-Sat, 10am-5pm.

More details of the museum are at www.wycombe.gov.uk/museum.
